Idiopathic intussusception in adults is distinctly uncommon, comprising 10% of diagnosed intussusceptions. We report a case of a spontaneous jejunal intussusception in a 48-year-old man that developed shortly after an open colectomy. The 48-year-old man, with no history of a laparotomy, underwent a left hemicolectomy and a left hemihepatectomy for descending colon cancer with liver metastasis. For 14 postoperative days, the patient complained of ileus, and conservative management with a long intestinal tube failed. When the patient underwent a laparotomy, intussusception of the mid jejunum was observed. The intussusception was resected, and no underlying bowel abnormality was identified. This report highlights the importance of considering this rare etiology in patients with ileus who have recently undergone a laparotomy. J Korean Soc Coloproctol 2008;24:134-136

Intussusception causing postoperative intestinal obstruction following free jejunum transfer in adults: two case reports and review of the literature
Intussusception is a rare cause of postoperative intestinal obstruction in adults. We experienced two cases of bowel obstruction due to the jejuno-jejunal intussusception after harvest of a free jejunum graft for reconstruction after cervical esophagectomy. Bowel obstruction occurred early in the postoperative course, and reoperations were needed in both cases. In both case, the anastomotic sit...

1 of 2 DESCRIPTION A 74-year-old male presented with abdominal cramping and emesis. A CT and colonoscopy revealed dilated jejunum and ileum due to advanced cecal cancer. A long intestinal tube was progressed via nasogastric route for intestinal decompression, and the patient’s symptoms were temporarily relieved. On day 7, the patient again developed signs and symptoms of obstruction. A repeated...
